Lake Ontario is the smallest of the five "Great Lakes" of North America, through which the border between the USA and Canada runs.
Translated, the name simply means "big lake". It has a total area of 19,000 square kilometers, which is roughly the size of the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate.
Its deepest point is 244 meters below the surface. The largest city on its shores is Toronto.
Lake Ontario has over 1,500 islands. There are numerous bathing opportunities almost everywhere, many opportunities for water sports and, last but not least, numerous options for boat trips on the lake.
