The Noordzeekanaal is a canal for seagoing vessels in the Netherlands. It connects the port of Amsterdam in the province of North Holland in a westward direction to the North Sea at IJmuiden. In the 19th century, the Noordzeekanaal was built to facilitate access to the port of Amsterdam for larger ships.
