The Rhin rises to the west of Rheinsberg in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district, on the southern edge of the Mecklenburg Lake District. It flows into the Gülper Havel near Rhinow.

The Rhin is connected to many lakes in the Rheinsberg Lake District via various navigable canals. The Wolfsbrucher Canal connects the Rhin with the Müritz-Havel Canal.
